The field is an electromagnet used to generate a magnetic field in an electromagnetic machine. Over time, this part can build up a lot of heavy dirt and cause excessive heat in the motor. As a result, this can lead to shorting out and smoke. To inspect the field for shorts and damage, you will have to remove it from the grinder.
Apr 20, 2011 · Thanks for the share. I do have a problem with my AC motor for a table saw with sparking on the brushes and commutator and upon inspection I notice that it is only on two adjacent commutator bars. I remember from my days in the Navy that this can be fixed by shorting out two of the commutator bars although I can't remember which ones.
· Sometimes a machine with this type of exciter will build up voltage slowly or requires a load such as a grinder to be run in order to build up. If this is happening, the most common reason is a poor connection between the brushes and commutator. Clean the brushes and commutator. Check for excessive brush wear, and check for wobble of the ...
AC commutator motors, like comparable DC motors, have higher starting torque and higher speed than AC induction motors. The series motor operates well above the synchronous speed of a conventional AC motor. AC commutator motors may be either singlephase or polyphase. The singlephase AC version suffers a double line frequency torque pulsation, not present in the polyphase motor. Since a ...

The welding machine is too hot. Overload, Roto coils of the machine short circuit, commutator power is short or not clean. Stop the machine to fix the above problems if any.
· If all functions well, troubleshooting is complete. If not, continue to next step. Start the engine and check for wobble at exciter commutator. There should be no visible wobble of the exciter commutator. Manufacturing specifiions indie that the commutator should have a maximum runout of .003" Many machines have a bit more runout ...

Carbon brushes are used to conduct electricity to the armature through its commutator. Brushes are a common wear part that will need to be replaced periodically due to consistent rubbing against the rotating commutator. Worn brushes can cause sparks around the commutator, which can also cause damage to the armature, which should also be inspected. If your electric motor is experiencing issues ...
Repair angle grinding machines Sparky is divided into electrical and mechanical repair parts. For repair electrical parts need Tester. If you have the opportunity to buy or rent a device for determining the shortcircuited turns, we recommend that you use a simple IR probe 2. Such a device allows finding breakage or short circuit of windings of electrical parts without dismantling. It is ...
Motor troubleshooting includes a motor connection box to practice handson skills such as troubleshooting faults in a DC motor and AC singlephase and threephase motors, evaluating DC electric motor commutator and brush health, and using a multimeter to test an AC motor start/run capacitor. Amatrol's industrial training systems feature realworld, industrygrade components for .
Figure 3 depicts a 32 bar commutator, so this check must be done between each of the 16 pairs. The resistance you will measure is dependent upon the number of turns in each coil and the gauge of wire used. It is also dependent upon the operating voltage for which the motor is designed. For example, a 90 V dc motor will have smaller conductors and more turns per coil to raise resistance ...
